Hello Golfers,

Whilst we have been enjoying an early summer across most parts of the Country, bush fires are causing major havoc in some parts of the country, especially in NSW where several large fires have completely wiped out homes and residents have lost their entire life's belongings.
We hope that you and your family are not affected by such events and we give praise and support to the NSW Rural Fire Service, who in times of danger do an amazing job under extremely adverse conditions.

Survival

Irishman Peter Lawrie secured his Euro Tour card for next season with a final round of 70 at the ISPS HANDA Perth International at Lake Karrinyup.
Lawrie started the weekend in 114th place in the Race to Dubai rankings, only the top 110 guaranteed cards for next the following season, but his final round of 70 saw him finish on three under par, 18th overall, and clinch one of the final spots.
“_I’m just glad it’s over to be totally honest with you_,” Lawrie said afterwards.
“I’ve never felt so much pressure as the last eight weeks; can’t sleep, can’t eat properly, it’s just horrendous. I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy."
“I got off to a great start, so it wasn’t that much pressure, but jeepers, just coming down trying to get the job finished without making a mental error or doing something stupid, even finishing bogey, bogey."
It seems that we sometimes forget about the guys who are not superstars or don't make regular top ten finishes, but from Lawrie's comments, it would appear that EVERY SHOT he played at the ISPS HANDA Perth International was under pressure.
It is extremely tough out there on tour so making cuts and achieving personal goals at any stage is a great result.
“Finishing anywhere in the 20s I reckoned was going to get me to keep my card, but it’s not easy, I can tell you that. It is not easy."
“Hopefully fly home and probably sleep for a change. Go home and be with the family and stop being grumpy.”

Warnie Spins His Magic

Warne Shoots 71 @ St Andrews

Shane Warne best known for being the king of spin and the world's greatest spin bowler has pulled off a minor miracle at arguably the biggest stage in golf St Andrews Old Course.
Former test spinner Warne who took 708 wickets during a 15-year Test career, was a picture of consistency on the front nine holes at St Andrews, making par at every one. He even outplayed three previous major winners including Vijay Singh, David Duval and Louis Oosthuizen to post a score of 71, which is one under the card.
Unbelievably Warne and partner Peter O'Malley tied for fourth at the pro-am, with Warne out-scoring his professional partner by three strokes!

Whats in the Bag

What's in the bag

Name: Freddie Jacobson
Age: 39
Professional wins: 4

In 2004 Jacobson he just missed out on a Ryder Cup place, finishing one place short in both the European Tour rankings and the world ranking points rankings, and not being selected as a captain's pick.
Jacobson won his first PGA Tour title in 2011 at the Travelers Championship.
In November 2011, Jacobson had his best finish ever in a World Golf Championship event when he finished solo 2nd at the WGC-HSBC Champions in Shanghai, China. Jacobson had led the tournament after rounds two and three and entered the final round with a two stroke advantage over Louis Oosthuizen.

USPGA - Hosted Outside USA?

The US PGA is one of golf's four Major golf championships, in recent times has struggled to capture the public's enthusiasm in quite the same way as the three rivals – the Masters, the Open and the US Open.
Officials have come to together to think of new ideas for the event and one of them would be to host the event outside the US.
"This is an exercise we are going through, an analysis. It is far from a fait accompli that we are going to take the PGA Championship international," said Bevacqua.
"It would need to work for the PGA Tour, and it would need to work for the PGA Tour players. Another would be the PGA in the particular area we would consider. We would want the international PGAs to be a part of this and share in this. Many pieces would have to fall in place."
The first US PGA was held in 1916 and it soon changed from a match play event to a stroke play tournament in 1958.

PRO TIP:

Distance or Accuracy?

I can safely say that distance is not the ultimate goal, it's accuracy. The person who hits their shot closet to the pin first, will pile the pressure onto the opponent who is about to play their shot.
History tells us this time and time again. In the 1989 Ryder CupChristy O’Connor had a two-iron in his hand and had to hit over water to the 18th green and American Fred Couples had a nine iron. The rest as they say is history!
Happy golfing
