Golf Traders, New Year Newsletter

Hello Golfers,
There were plenty of thrills and spills in 2012, to name a few, Rory won every award going, Adam Scott narrowly missed out on the claret jug, Ernie proved he still has what it takes along with Peter Senior and most recently a boy form the back of the field won the Australian PGA.
What does 2013 have in store for us? More of the same please…

What to expect from Adam Scott in 2013?
Name: Adam Scott
Age: 32
Career PGA Tour wins: 8
Career major wins: 0
2012: An unusual year for Scott, who didn't have a PGA Tour win but had a serious run in the middle of his season that looked like it might define his career.
Scott finished third at the AT&T National event only to follow that up with an incredible performance for three days at the British Open, where he entered the final round with a four shot lead that evaporated over the brutal closing holes of Lytham, he was odds on to gain his first major title. Scott made too many mistakes over those closing holes to lose by a shot to Ernie Els. Scott was still able to finish T-11 at the PGA Championship and card two top-seven finishes in the four FedEx Cup playoff events.
We like him for the 2013 season: Because it has always seemed that Scott is the type of player that should contend in majors consistently, and I see the British Open stumble to be almost like Rory McIlroy at the 2011 Masters. Scott is older than McIlroy was at Augusta National, but he was there with a chance to win down the stretch and let it get away.
Scott's mindset seems to be the type that can take a moment like the one at Lytham and build on it, and I see him doing that this season. There is something about the combination of the long putter and Steve Williams that has lifted Scott. While I would love to see him be more consistent over an entire season, I think he will be a winner on the PGA Tour a couple of times in '13 and really push hard for a first major title.
All the best Scott.

chipping

PRO TIP:

Chipping Default

One of the most common mistakes I see when playing in pro-ams are amateurs leaving the ball well short of the hole because they haven't used the correct club when chipping.
All too often people chip with a wedge from around the green, this is the default club most reach for and more often than not come up short of the hole.
When you are just off off the green assess the shot, if there no obstructions between you and the hole, try landing the ball on the green and get it rolling like a putt with a less lofted club such as a 7, 8, or 9 iron.
By doing this you are getting the ball onto the green and getting it rolling like a putt with less effort and execution required.
