Golf Traders Newsletter, 22nd October, 2012

G’day Golfers,

Hope you’ve had a good week. This is the 38th Golf Traders Newsletter, enjoy the read....

Golf News:

Congratulations to Tommy Gainey for his win in the McGladrey Classic this week. Gainey shot a final round 60 that included 8 birdies and an eagle to breakthrough for his maiden PGA Tour win.

"It feels like I'm in a dream," Gainey said from Sea Island Golf Club, where he finished at 16-under 264, one shot ahead of David Toms and two in front of Jim Furyk. "I'm just waiting for somebody to slap me up side the head or pinch me or something to wake me up."

Interestingly, Gainey wears two golf gloves, one on each hand, which has earned him the nickname Tommy ‘2 gloves’ Gainey.

This Week's Golf Tip:

This week’s golf tip is from Bill Haas, as seen in golf digest, here are Bill’s tips for hitting your driver far and straight:

GET SET, GO

You can control so much about the shot before you swing. Things such as gripping it lightly, making sure your alignment is correct and that the ball is forward in your stance so you don't get ahead of it at impact. These points matter, so don't take them for granted. Go ahead and check off each thing before you pull the trigger.

√ STAND TALL

I think posture is key. When I stand taller, I feel like I can get my arms swinging through better. The last thing you want is to have to stand up during the downswing to create room for the club to hit the ball. If you do, you'll make it a lot harder to hit it flush.

√ TAKE YOUR TIME GOING BACK

I like to feel my swing is slow and languid. Luke Donald is definitely one to try to emulate in this department. The key to having good tempo is to take more time getting to the top of the backswing. You really have to let it finish before you start down. Turn until you can't turn anymore. You'll produce effortless power.

√ SWING THROUGH IT

I consider myself a swinger as opposed to a hitter. With irons I'm not a picker; I definitely take a divot after I hit the ball. But when I'm hitting driver, my goal is to swing through the ball like it's not even there. I don't want to just hit the ball, I want to hit the ball with the clubface aiming down the fairway and keep the clubface closing all the way until the follow-through. Sometimes I use the thought of hitting the far outside of the ball to do this.
