Flooded GC

Hello Golfers,

Well it's been another full on week of weather. Last week we were sweltering, hiding under shop awnings for shade, and this week we seek those same awnings for protection from the rain.
We hope those of you in Queensland are not affected by flooding this time around and we are all hoping for some dry weather for you.

Pop Up Golf:

The world's first pop-up golf course is making a comeback to the mountains of Switzerland.
The 18-hole Golf Mountain located on the plateau of Engstligenalp, overlooking the village of Adelboden; will again play host to those dye hard golfers who cannot resist a hit after a long winter.
Golf enthusiasts can enjoy the challenges of the natural course, contending with streams, rocky outposts, mountain winds and extreme weather. And after a day on the green, relax at the Cambrian hotel to drain a few drinks.
The 18-hole course will return for a limited time only due to the seasonal conditions and severe winter.

PRO TIP:

Draw or Fade?

Following on from last weeks column, it is crucial to plan your tee shot before you hit the ball. If you comfortably play a fade off the tee, then play to your strengths and allow for such a shot, picking out a marker or target to aim at from the tee. Most golfers like to think they can hit a perfectly straight shot, when the reality is we all shape our shots one way or the other.
When you find yourself yourself under the pump play to your strengths, don't go for the sublime shot. Keep the ball in play to give yourself the best possible chance of making par or better.

Hello Golfers,

I hope everyone survived the heat last week! Our next door neighbours here at Golf Traders HQ recorded temperatures of of over 50ºC, in their workplace, we fared a little better but we still sizzled in that intense heat.
If you are planning on playing in hot conditions make sure to cover up and take plenty of water with you, 4-5 hours out in the sun can take its toll on the body.

Lance-armstrong

On Yer Bike

Did you see THAT interview on television the other night? Armstrong admitting that all of his 7 Tour de France wins were aided by way of performance enhancing drugs.
The general feeling amongst the people when this subject comes up in conversation is one of true sadness. An unbelievably sad story of how the people of the world hero worshipped him, believed his story and held him in such high esteem, feel let down, betrayed and in many cases angry.
There is no doubt Lance Armstrong has done outstanding charity work and has more than likely put more bums on saddles than any other person to have worn ridiculously tight shorts and a yellow vest.
Put all that aside for a moment and you are still left with a man who by his own admission wanted everything HIS WAY and was ruthless in the way he achieved it.
I for one am proud to say that golf is one of the few sports where a competitor can mark their own score card, and cheating is frowned upon at any level.
PGA tour players often penalise themselves for a breach of the rules and as a result often harm their chances of victory for the greater good of the game and their reputation(s).

straight-shot

PRO TIP:

Hitting Straight

The key to hitting perfectly straight golf shots is a square path and square club face angle. That's it. That's all you need to hit the ball perfectly straight every single shot.
Of course, that is easier said than done, but it doesn't change the fact that those are the requirements and nothing else. If the club head is travelling straight down the target line with the club face perfectly square to the target line, the golf ball will fly dead straight.
When out on the course try to remember one or two swing thoughts at most, this will concentrate your brain on one area and free you up to swing without hesitation.

helllo golfers

Hello Golfers,

Officially the world's worst kept secret, Rory Mcllroy became a Nike staff player and in the process made himself around $250 million, making him one of the world's best paid stars.
Rumours have it that he has already filmed a commercial with the man who made the deal happen, a certain Mr. T Woods (heard of him!) The contract is expected to last 10 years and starts at a mere $200m before bonuses are added on to that.
Nike needed a fresh new face in light of the Tiger Woods affair(s) fiasco and the more recent Lance Armstrong scandal, the company needed someone with a squeaky-clean image. Then who better than the man from Northern Ireland.
I hope his reputation and demeanour fairs better over time than Tiger and indeed the famous Irishman George Best (Soccer legend) who was once quoted as saying "I spent 90% of my money on booze, birds, and fast cars. The rest I just wasted".
He can do no wrong at the moment and with looming wedding bells sounding in the background it only adds to the appeal of the man, keep it on the straight and narrow Rory.
In light of Nike's recent mega buster deal Sir Nick Faldo, never one to be shy of a word or two has said he feels Rory has taken an unnecessary risk by ditching Titleist in favour of Nike. 'I call it dangerous,' said Faldo who feels that switching manufacturers can dent your confidence.
'I call it dangerous,' said Faldo, as speculation grew that McIlroy was about to switch allegiance.
'I've changed clubs and every manufacturer will say: "We can copy your clubs, we can tweak the golf ball so that it fits you". But there's a feel and sound and there's confidence [in your equipment]. You can't put a real value on that, it's priceless.'

putting line up

PRO TIP:

Alignment

Many players spend what seems like an eternity on the tee making practice swings, gestures and alignments that amount to nothing, but yet on the putting green they walk up to a putt and simply hit it without looking (missing) and say something along the lines of "jeez i hit a good putt".
Use the logo or device on your ball as an aid for aligning your putts, imagine a line protruding from your logo device and extending along the green in the desired direction you want the ball to go in.
When you address the putt with your putter, use the visual markings on the putter head to make sure you are nice and square to the ball. From this setup you are giving yourself every chance of holing your putt.
Try this out on the practice green before you hit off.
